 2.  Shapes can be used to portray natural objects in many different ways.  Do
     the following:

     a.  Make a pencil drawing from a photograph and simplify the subject matter
         by leaving out little details.

     b.  draw from the same photo.  This time flatten the object shapes and simplify
         their contours so they are almost abstract in nature.

 3.  The principles of linear perspective can be used to create space.  Do the following:

     a.  Check a book out of your local library about linear perspective.

 4.  A collage is a good way to deal to deal with texture.  Do the following:

     a.  Collect a variety of textures, such as cloth, sand, foil, wood, and
         colored photos from magazines.  Cut or tear the materials and arrange
         them into shapes by color, value, and texture.  Glue these shapes onto
         a sheet of drawing paper.
